Senior Stephanie Powell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) is the female athlete of the week after qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships to be held on May 27-29 at Baldwin-Wallace College.
Powell won the hammer throw at the Oneonta Last Chance meet over the weekend with a toss of 45.80 meters, setting a new meet record. However, it was her provisional qualifying distance in the hammer throw as she cleared the 50-meter mark with a toss of 50.70 meters at the Bucknell Bison Open that earned her a spot at nationals. Powell is ranked 16th in a field of 18 competitors.
Junior Max Keado (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) is the male athlete of the week after leading the Brockport Baseball Team to an appearance in the NCAA Regional Tournament.
It was the second NCAA appearance for Brockport in the history of the program. Keado hit .556 in two games going 5-of-9 at the plate with one run scored an a run batted in. The centerfielder was 1-of-2 on stolen base attempts and had four putouts.
He finished the season second on the team in hitting with a .384 average and 58 hits. His 43 runs scored set a new season record and he was named first team All-SUNYAC.
