Eagles drop a Homecoming Heartbreaker

The Golden Eagles lost a Homecoming heart breaker Sept. 25 against The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), 24-21.
After a scoreless first quarter, Brockport scored the first points of the game with a 3-yard touchdown run by Riedrick Alceus. Three minutes later TCNJ scored to tie the game, but the Eagles scored two unanswered touchdowns and looked to be soaring to a few more.
With two minutes left in the third quarter TCNJ running back Joe Falco ran the ball into the endzone from the two yard line to tighten the game at 21-14 Brockport. Shortly into the fourth quarter, quarterback James Donoghue torched the Brockport defense with a 51 yard pass to James Yates for the tying touchdown. The drive took just four plays and covered 64 yards.
With less than three minutes in the game, Brockport drove down the field to win the game. An incomplete pass up the left sideline left them at fourth and 10 on TCNJ's 24 yard line and a decision to make. Coaches decided to try for the first down, and the team failed to convert.
TCNJ took control of the ball with almost a minute left on the game clock. With less than five seconds left in the game and the ball on Brockport's 27 yard line TCNJ kicker Tyler Olsson attempted the game winning field goal and made it.
It was the college's homecoming game and was preceded by a parade through the campus and town. Students showed up to cheer on their school in body paint, in the free "Game On" t-shirts they received at last week's first home game and in gold and green decked out apparel.
The stadium was also renamed at halftime of the game. The previous Special Olympics Stadium was renamed Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.
The Brockport Golden Eagles next play at Morrisville State at 7 p.m. Oct. 2. The team is 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
