Scholar Athletes of the Year

Seniors Melissa Hill (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and Matt Mangona (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) have been voted The College at Brockport 2009-10 Outstanding Female and Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year as voted on by the coaching and athletic administrative staff at the college.

Hill led the Golden Eagle Women’s Lacrosse team in nearly all statistical categories as the team earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history and advanced to the second round before losing to the defending National Champions Franklin & Marshall.
Hill carries a 3.90 grade point average as a Spanish major with a concentration in teacher certification.
The senior was a first-team All-Region selection and led Brockport with 48 goals, 11 free-position goals, 67 groundballs, 50 draw controls and 50 caused turnovers as the team finished with a 13-4 record with all four loses coming against teams ranked in the top-20 national rankings.
Brockport earned the No. 20 spot in the national poll for the final two weeks of the regular season.

Mangona was fourth on the Golden Eagle football team with 50 tackles including 23 solo stops and 3 ½ quarterback sacks.
In addition to his duties as a starting linebacker for the team, Mangona also carries a 3.85 grade point average with a double major in Accounting and Finance. He was the recipient of the Vice Provost Office Undergraduate award and was also inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma national college athletics honor society.
