Women's Lacrosse Earns a Bid to the NCAA Tournament

The College at Brockport Women’s Lacrosse team learned late Sunday night that is had received an at-large bid to the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The Golden Eagles, playing in their first-ever NCAA Tournament, will host Rowan University in the first round game at 4 pm Wednesday.

Brockport (12-3) finished second in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament Saturday in Cortland with a 10-4 loss to host SUNY Cortland.

Senior Melissa Hill leads a balanced offensive attack for the Golden Eagles with 41 goals. Seven players have at least 23 points on the season with freshman Sarah Brown leading the way with 32 goals and 30 assists for 62 points. Sophomore Dayna Piraino is second on the team with 59 points on 30 goals and 29 assists followed by Hill and sophomore Karen Bianchi who has contributed 30 goals and five assists. Fellow sophomore Carly Motondo is next with 25 goals and four assists while senior Lindsey Cayea and freshman Kaila Maguire each have 23 points.

Defensively, Brockport goalie Jamie Kaminsky has played every minute of every game with a 7.55 goals against average and 116 saves.
